A Night’s Welcome
There are few moments more desperate than not knowing where you and your family will sleep tonight. Thankfully, for the 21 coldest weeks of the year, HELP coordinates a place for anyone to come and sleep who needs somewhere safe and warm. 21 area churches open their doors to those in need and, with the help of many other congregations and organizations, provide two hot meals, toiletries, and community for individuals and families that find themselves stuck on the street.
With so many in need, it’s hard to know where to start. You’ve come to the right place. Here’s how you can get started:
Help a host site with a meal—we’re always in need of groups to come and help prepare a meal for our guests. Some days we feed as many as 100 people. Gather your group and fix dinner or breakfast—or both! Sign up here.
Volunteer for the many times that churches need help with staffing. The shelter is open from 6 PM to 7 AM. The following positions always need volunteers:
Check-In (5:30 PM to 9 PM)
Dinner Help (4 to 7 PM)
Overnight (9 PM to 6 AM)
Breakfast Help (4 to 7 AM)
Cleaning Up (6 AM to 8 AM)
Consider collecting items for our guests in A Night’s Welcome. Commonly needed items include:
Clean, packaged underwear (all shapes and sizes)
Gallon Sealable Bags
